How to Install a Bronze Plaque

Since our company is located in Utah, most of the bronze plaques we ship have to be installed by an outside company or by you. I am often asked how to install a bronze plaque to a brick, or stone surface. This week I had to do a local installation and so I took pictures of the process and will try to explain it so you could do it yourself.

This shows a close up view of the final outcome of the plaque attached to the stone surface.

The rock was a sandstone and very easy to drill into and the surface area where the plaque was attached was very flat.
The first step is to get the plaque and all of your tools as close to the location as you can. The plaque will ship with 2 or more bronze bolts. At this point I screw the bolts carefully into the back of the plaque. Be very careful to only tighten until it is barely snug. If you overtighten the bolts you may pop through the other side of the bronze.
At this point I hold the plaque with the bolts sticking out, up against the surface to see where I want to locate the plaque onto the rock. I use a Magic Marker type pen to draw around the bolts to mark my locations on the rock where I am going to drill.
To drill the holes into the rock, cement or brick surface, I use a hammer drill. It pounds as it drills the hole and makes that process much faster. I use a 1/2" in diameter masonry drill bit so that the holes are slightly larger than the diameter of the bolt (3/8") Once the holes have been drilled, I clean the dust out the holes and off from the mounting area. I then do a test to see iff the bolts slide into the bolt holes and that the plaque fits snugly against the rock surface. Then I fill each hole with construction glue or epoxy. I also epoxy the back of the plaque. Once the glue is in place I simply slide the bolts into the bolt holes and against the rock surface.
